First OxygenOS 11 Beta Now Available

OnePlus has released the first Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 open beta for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series. The beta firmware is available for all four models in the series – OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro. The company has detailed the full changelog along with steps on how to install the beta firmware as well as steps on how to roll back to the previous beta build or Android 10 on the official forum.

OnePlus was expected to launch an OxygenOS 11 beta program for the OnePlus 7 series last month itself. However, midway through last month, the company announced that the Android 11 update for its 2019 flagships will be delayed due to technical issues.

The devices apparently encountered an issue with data decryption after upgrading to the latest iteration of Android OS during internal testing. Now, after a slight delay, the Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 has finally arrived for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series phones.

The first OxygenOS 11 open beta for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series flagships brings tons of new features and enhancements that are part and parcel of Android 11. Additionally, there are some custom tweaks from OnePlus as well.

The official changelog mentions a UI redesign for a more comfortable experience. The Camera app also gets a UI redesign along with some additional features such as support for the HEVC codec. You can now share a picture by pressing and holding it in preview in the Camera app. Pressing and holding the shutter button lets you record videos while you can easily zoom in/out by sliding the button.

OnePlus says it is testing the Always-On-Display (AOD) feature for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series. It will be available to users in a later beta release. The company introduced AOD with OxygenOS 11 on the OnePlus 8T last year. Ambient Display gets some added features as well.

OxygenOS 11 brings a quick setting toggle for the dark mode to OnePlus smartphones. Users can also now set dark mode to automatically turn on/off at a preset time. Last but not least, the Gallery app gets a new Story function that automatically creates a weekly roundup of your photos and videos. OnePlus also promises a faster load time for image preview in the Gallery app.

As you’d expect from a beta firmware, there are some known issues as well. OnePlus says there are risks of increased power consumption and instability of the phone. Auto brightness adjustment may lag sometimes. You may also notice longer load times for some apps.

Nonetheless, if you’re interested in trying out OxygenOS 11 on your OnePlus 7 smartphone, you can download the beta firmware for your region from the specified regional server. OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro users can click here while OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro users can click here. This update shouldn’t cause any data loss. However, we highly recommend backing up all the important files and information before downloading the beta firmware.
